A business entity of Benguet Corporation that started in 1930 primarily to serve the employees and dependents of Benguet Corporation. Realizing the importance of providing medical services to a growing population and to further attain its goal of expanding market share.

History

Benguet Laboratories was established in 1930 in Baguio City, providing clinical laboratory services and medical services to the Notre Dame Hospital in partnership with the St. Paul Sisters.  It was originally the health care services arm of its mother company, Benguet Corporation and its subsidiaries located in the Province of Benguet serving the health care needs of about 5,000 of its employees and dependents.  Before the earthquake struck in 1990, BL moved to its new home located at the Military Cut-Off area in 1987 and then subsequently to Abanao Extension in 1990, where it opened its services to the public.

When the SM Mall in the City of Baguio was being constructed in 2002, Mr. Benjamin Philip G. Romualdez, then President of Benguet Corporation, saw the opportunity to be located in the heart of the city thus in 2004, it opened its new home at the ground floor of SM Baguio.  To meet the high demand of corporate clients, BL opened its Clinc Management services.  This paved the way to BL’s accreditation with the various Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) which started also in the same year.

With the growing population in the City of Baguio, and nearby municipalities in the Benguet Province,  BL established a branch in 2007 located at the fourth floor of Baguio Centermall, Magsaysay Avenue, Baguio City.

With business opportunities growing for health care, Benguet Corp span-off the business in 2012 and created a wholly owned subsidiary under the business name, BenguetCorp Laboratories, Inc. (BCLI),  thus now considered as a revenue generating subsidiary of the Company.

In 2017, BL moved its SM Mall facility to a bigger area currently located at the SM Cyberzone Annex Building to conveniently and accessibly serve its increasing number of patients, practitioners, HMO members and corporation clients.

Today, BL stands as the only ISO certified (ISO-9001:2015 QMS) clinical lab, duly certified in January 2018 by TUV Rheinland.  It currently holds a total of 30 HMO accreditations in partnership with doctors of various expertise/specializations.  It continues to be an ISO audited and recertified facility on a yearly basis, making sure all its process and procedures are within the globally accepted standards in quality management.

Benguet Laboratories takes pride in being a consistent recipient of excellent reviews and awards from the Bureau of Research Laboratories of the Department of Health.  It has been acclaimed as one of the best training centers for Medical Technology and Radiologic Technology students from different schools and universities for a period of 17-years (1987-2004)

Pursuant to its social responsibility, BCLI continues to provide discounted services and participate in medical and dental mission to the surrounding communities.

An expansion and roll out program are being planned for additional primary care facilities with the Luzon corridor to include a Center for Hemodialysis in order to meet the growing demand for dialysis clinics.

Benguet Laboratories is composed of ten (16) Administrative personnel, six (6) Registered Nurses, four (4) Licensed Radiologic Technologists, and eleven (11) Licensed Medical Technologists.

While our outsourced medical team-MOOG Controls Philippines consist of one (1) company nurse.

To be of better service to our corporate client’s medical needs, Benguet Laboratories render on-site annual physical examination (APE) and pre-employment examination within the premises of its clients’ plant locations. This saves time thus reducing cost for the client. BL operates its own Mobile X-ray Van supported by a laboratory and a Medical Team.

Benguet Laboratories in its continuing commitment to corporate social responsibility renders regular medical missions by providing free medicines, consultation, and laboratory services to host and neighboring communities.
