Are you having difficulty understanding words and following conversations? Do sounds seem muffled? Do the people around you complain that the volume of your television or radio is turned up too loud? Do you experience any ringing in your ear? These are early signs of hearing loss that can emerge slowly or suddenly.
Hearing loss or hearing impairment is the inability to hear properly that can occur in one or both ears. It is important to keep in mind that hearing loss does not only affect the elderly but also infants and children that may interrupt their ability to develop speech. Therefore, early detection and intervention is essential that will make a big difference in a child’s development and to help adults stay connected with their love ones and with the world around them.
A thorough hearing test is easy and non invasive and it will get you started on your path to better hearing. Here are some of the hearing tests that we provide.

- Hearing Screening
This type of test uses air conduction to measure your ability to hear sounds at various pitches and volumes. This is a simple test that will help assess your hearing threshold. You will be asked to wear a headphone inside a booth and a series of tones will be presented through the headphones and you will respond by raising a hand or pressing the button every time the tone is heard. - Diagnostic Testing ( Puretone Air, Bone and Speech Audiometry)
This type of test is composed of three tests; Puretone Audiometry comprised of air and bone conduction which is utilized to help determine the degree of hearing loss and type of hearing loss. Speech Audiometry is a test that will determine your speech reception threshold or the softest speech you can understand 50% of the time. - Conditioned Play Audiometry
This type of test is used to assess a child’s hearing ability. Usually children ages 2-5 years old or depending on the child’s mental age. This test involves “listen and drop game” where the child is conditioned to listen to sounds and to respond by throwing a block in a bucket or adding a piece in a puzzle. - How to prepare your child for conditioned play audiometryIf your child will be having their hearing evaluated, it is a good idea to practice the “listen and drop game” with your child beforehand. This way they are more likely to understand the task and the Audiologist will be able to obtain very thorough information about your child’s hearing level.
